WATERCOLOR

I made this one ad-lib style with no plan other than a palette of neutrals, pink, and red, all of which were dyed by me with plants and minerals. The variations in the neutral shades make this piece look as though it were a watercolor painting. The neon yellow binding (naturally dyed with weld) was not part of the original palette plan but it’s my favorite aspect of this quilt! The fabrics are organic cotton and organic linen. The batting is also organic cotton. I hand quilted it with sashiko thread imported from Japan in a fun pattern called baptist fans. I had to wash this one to remove the guide lines for the hand quilting pattern, so the beautiful crinkle texture has bloomed as it always does once a hand quilted piece has been washed. There are some slight pencil marks left that will fade with subsequent washings. The back was also pieced in an improv ad-lib style with the remnants of the naturally dyed fabrics used to make the front and also some remnants from my garment sewing scrap basket. The up close photo is a better representation of the colors than the more yellow tone in the full shots.

Measures: 31” x 43” (baby size or wall hanging)
