This small piece began with the walnut husk dyed scalloped border. I used the border as a frame and filled it with traditional quilt blocks and shapes in an unplanned improv style. The piecing is intricate and made up of many tiny shapes all sewn together. The hand appliquéd rabbit is indigo dyed khadi cotton that was hand spun and woven in India. I used a repurposed vintage cotton thread to hand quilt the piece in a dense freehand style. The solid colors were all naturally dyed by me and the prints are the sweetest vintage prints from my stash. So many good ones in this piece!
The back is undyed organic cotton and contains a sleeve for a dowel rod to slip into to hang the quilt. I include the leather lacing but please note that I am not including the dowel rod because it doesn’t fit in my shipping boxes. This can be picked up at a local hardware store or any big box craft or hardware store for less than $2.
