Hand appliquéd rabbits and daisies unfurling on a homegrown weld-green background. I began this piece on winter solstice when the plant world was in torpor. It started with the daisies and evolved from there. The colors are derived from traditional plant dyes, many of which I planted as seeds. The predominant colors are weld green, madder coral, and indigo. I especially love a quilt that plays tricks on the eyes in a good and playful dancing kind of way and this one does just that with the stripes and alternating light and dark blocks.

This quilt is machine pieced and the daisies and rabbits were appliquéd by hand with visible hand stitches. The quilting was done by hand. I felt like this special quilt deserved some special hand quilting so I did dense freehand organic curvy sashiko thread stitches to mirror the playful elements of the piece work. I painted the panels on the back of this quilt with natural dyes. Mixed fibers of linen, organic cotton, and hemp with an organic cotton batting.

Measures: 48 x 48” (Wall hanging size)

I’m happy to sew a sleeve to the back or offer other suggestions regarding ways to hang this piece.
