The skins are saved throughout the year when we cook our meals and also gleaned from the storage bins when we clean out the root cellar in spring. There may be some skins from store bought onions from the short period in which we run out of onions between late spring and early summer. Sorry if you get a produce sticker! I saw a few in there and removed them but I could’ve missed some.
Onion skins yield beautiful warm shades from gold to ochres and with an iron bath after dyeing, the colors shift to warm browns. Onion skin shades pair well with gamble oak browns, pericón shades, and apple branch tans.
