MYCELIUM QUILT
Mycelium is incredibly tiny fungal threads that are interconnected to form massive mycelial networks or “wood wide webs.” Water, nutrients, and minerals are transferred through this amazing network, and trees are able to communicate with each other through it. Mycelium is a beautiful example of interconnectedness. The white stars in this quilt represent individual trees that are connected by a mycelial network of tiny intricate fabric scraps. All of the colors are naturally dyed by me here on the farm. The piecing was done with my sewing machine and the dense quilting was done entirely by hand with a subtle pink thread I dyed with madder root.
Materials: organically grown cotton and hemp fabrics, organically grown cotton batting, mixed organic fabrics and scraps from my garment sewing basket for the backing, organic cotton sewing machine thread, cotton Japanese sashiko thread.
