MAYAN STEPS QUILT

0.00

This is a traditional log cabin quilt block called courthouse steps. As this piece came together I kept thinking about the ancient Mayan pyramids that we visited in Tikal, Guatemala. The steep steps of the ancient pyramids rising out of the jungle.

The neutral background in this quilt is organic cotton. The blue was naturally dyed in my indigo vat, and is a linen/cotton blend fabric with a nice texture. The back is constructed with the same indigo dyed linen/cotton from the front of the quilt, and a sweet vintage calico.  This quilt was made entirely without a ruler which gives it an organic look and feel. The batting is natural unbleached cotton. This piece is entirely hand quilted with Japanese Sashiko thread, and bound also by hand.

Measures approximately: 39 inches x 54 inches; perfect as a baby or child size quilt or an art piece to hang on the wall.
